Klansville USA

On Tuesday, we watched a documentary on the KKK and when it was formed. It was definitely an eye opening movie and taught me a lot that I did not know. Before the movie my idea of the KKK was a racist group of white people. I did not know how it was formed or when or even the ranks of people. After the civil war had ended, confederate soldiers from Tennessee had formed the Ku Klux Klan in 1865. It started as a fraternal club but soon after it started, the group became violent and was under great watch. The Klan fell in 1871, but decades later it would make a return for around ten years and even got over 4 million members in such a short time. That group ended up also failing to stay a group. In 1963 is when the movie talks about what is most important to me. It was the rise of the klan yet again but this time after them Brown v Board of Education. What makes this part the most interesting to me is the fact that it was placed in North Carolina. The very state that I go to college today. North Carolina had the rise of the largest Klan. At one point if I remember correctly their were over 10,000 members total in the state of NC alone. The documentary also talked about the supreme leaders that were thought to be the best leaders of the movement. It was crazy to see how they burned crosses and actually believed these ideals. I never thought their were that many members in the Klan itself. Overall the Documentary was very educational and interesting in its own ways. I would definitely check it out if you like history! It was called Klansville USA. Here is a link to check it out!
